What is Holistic Health?
No matter what preconceived notions you may have about holistic health, it’s probably not what you think. It’s not a new practice or a passing fad — it’s been around for centuries. It does not conflict with the scientific practice of medicine as we know it today — it complements it and enhances its effects. It’s not a single treatment or a one-time solution — it’s a lifestyle.
One of the best definitions I’ve found is from Ivey College:
“Holistic Health can be defined as an approach to life. Rather than focusing on illness or specific parts of the body, this ancient approach to health considers the whole person and how he or she interacts with his or her environment. Holistic health emphasises the connection of mind, body, and spirit.”
The goal of a holistic health practice is to improve your whole health. To do that, you must not simply address illness. You must care for your entire self, including your mind, body, and spirit.
